My background
I am an artist and musician first. Through sharing my work, I realised I also liked supporting people through their creativity. I went on to train in psychodynamic art psychotherapy, which means I work at depth and with the unconscious, and we use art-making to get there.
I understand and work with attachment and explore the impact of early-life experiences.
I completed rigorous training over six years, including more than 1,000 hours of my own psychodynamic personal art therapy.
My continuing development and ongoing training
Since registering with the HCPC in 2018, I have continued my professional development in trauma training, anti-oppressive practices, ethical space holding, somatic enquiry and movement, and meditation and mindfulness.
As a white-bodied therapist, I continue to decolonise my practice and deconstruct the racism and white supremacy within my own body and mind, and to challenge the racism and white supremacy of the therapy room. I am doing this imperfectly; I welcome feedback.
I acknowledge the lineage of my work, which Western psychology and the wellbeing industry have taken without credit. This includes indigenous spiritual practices, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I have completed training directly from ethical Western somatic practitioners or Indigenous practitioners. As I continue to decolonise my practice, I aim to centre and honour BIPOC teachers by purchasing from them directly and unlinking myself from unethical providers.
